Leavenworth and such

Zack and I decided that this year we would actually do something for our anniversary. We're pretty cheap and boring so we've never really done anything exciting to celebrate. It was a treat to go somewhere and not have to cook or clean much.

Before our celebration began we went to visit family. We got to spend time with my grandparents and cousin Julia. Then we went to visit Zack's family. (That was Wed. pm and Thursday am) On Thursday C woke up with a slight fever so we drugged him with Tylenol (no reason to relive the last fever experience) and then we were off to my family. We had fun visiting everyone. My parents recently went to London to visit my sister Jana. Jana is the master bargain shopper. So, I sent some money to see how much she could outfit Cole and baby for the next year. I was surprised when my mom pulled out a bag that pretty much has both kids clothed for the better part of 2010. All we need for baby is jammies and then 12mo+. Pretty sweet!

Friday we headed off for Leavenworth. It was such a beautiful drive and C cooperated better than we could have hoped for. Our trip was nice but also sobering. Shortly after arriving we were notified that my Uncle Rajan's lymphoma had been too aggressive and that treatment wasn't a real option. We were told that he'd only have a few days. That weighed on our hearts and minds during our trip. Our plan was to check-out early on Sunday to go say goodbye to Rajan. Sadly, he passed away early Sunday morning. We visited my Aunt Alice and those relatives that could be there together.

Here are some of the highlights of our trip to Leavenworth. There are a lot of them so beware.

We were just walking along Blackbird Island when Cole looked down and realized we were on sand. He froze and then SCREAMED. Daddy had to carry him the rest of the way.

C smiles for the camera now. I think that he looks more and more like his Dad. There must be some Mom in there somewhere.

We took C golfing twice to test out his mad skills. The club was much heavier than the plastic ones at home so he opted for dragging the club behind him most of the time. He did take a couple good swings and was a great ball retriever. Whenever a ball went into the hole he'd say "Hoo hoo Dada. Hoo Hoo Mama!"

Feeding the goats on the side of the road. They were right across from our hotel.

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?

Apparently C is! He didn't want in on the funny hat action.

This is the closest that I will ever be to snakes.

While we were visiting my parents C found a small basketball. Of course he played with it the whole time but then refused to give it up when it was time to leave. Grandma was nice enough to give it to C along with a card that makes a cruise ship honking noise when you open it. Thanks Grandma! Anway, C wouldn't put his new b-ball down the entire trip. He would have slept with it but it smelled like plastic and I wouldn't allow that. He did carry it with him up and down the streets of Leavenworth. He must have stood out because one afternoon a man came up to us and said that he had seen C carrying around the ball several times. He literally carries it everywhere. C was also noticed in the park for his b-ball dribbling skills. People actually stopped to watch him. That crazy kid.
I didn't get a lot of sleep during the trip. I blame pregnancy for that but it didn't help that C and Zack both talk in their sleep. Early 1 morning we woke up to "Beep beep. Oh wow. Honk honk!" Another time we woke to laughing from our sleeping child. Zack doesn't really talk in his sleep as much as grab onto me and push me back against the bed. When it is quiet I bet the baby is trying to babble about something to fill the silence! If she talks as much as she wiggles then we're in trouble.

We did have a nice time away from home but are glad to be back as well. Now were are grieving for Rajan. He was the kind of character that everyone wants in their family. He loved and trusted everyone. If only I could be that Christlike. He always made us laugh, gave warm hugs, made delicious curry, and many other things. I have so many wonderful memories with my dear Aunt and Uncle in them. Life will go on but things will never be the same. He will always be missed. I am so thankful for the blessings of the temple and to know that our family can be together forever. We love you Uncle Rajan and you will always be in our thoughts.
